Audio BSA 105 (Editing) Week 15
This week we learned about audio, which is measured in Decibels. The maximum of decibels that is still broadcast safe is 0db. There is a difference between volume and loudness, the volume is the intensity of the sound itself, whereas loudness is simply the perceived overall volume. Audio compression can be used to flatten the loudness of a video, it does this by bringing the extremes up or down. We learned how to do this in Premiere with the aid of the loudness radar, but we were also introduced to Adobe Audition, in which you can cut undesirable audio.
We were taught this process to audio editing:
- Normalise to -2db
- Clean up in Audition
- Audio Compression in Premiere
- Create manual peaks and troughs in volume ramp
- Check submix for legality
- Apply Radar
